Solution to the ion feedback problem in Hybrid Photon Detectors and Photo Multiplier Tubesa
A general solution to the positive ion feedback problem in Hybrid Photon Detectors (HPD), photo multipliers (PM) and other similar detectors was found in the insertion of a permanent electrostatic potential barrier which prevents drift of positive ions from the anode, or the first dynode, towards the photocathode. In this paper we present the method as applied to the Intevac HPD.
متن کاملA Pragmatic Solution to the Value Problem of Knowledge
We value possessing knowledge more than true belief. Both someone with knowledge and someone with a true belief possess the correct answer to a question. Why is knowledge more valuable than true belief if both contain the correct answer? I examine the philosophy of American pragmatist John Dewey and then I offer a novel solution to this question often called the value problem of knowledge. I pr...
متن کاملAN ADAPTIVE WAVELET SOLUTION TO GENERALIZED STOKES PROBLEM
In this paper we will present an adaptive wavelet scheme to solvethe generalized Stokes problem. Using divergence free wavelets, theproblem is transformed into an equivalent matrix vector system, thatleads to a positive definite system of reduced size for thevelocity. This system is solved iteratively, where the applicationof the infinite stiffness matrix, that is sufficiently compressible,is r...
متن کاملSolution to the Chautauqua Problem
There exists an infinite ascending chain of finitely generated clones on a nine-element set for which the corresponding algebras are alternately finitely based and inherently nonfinitely based. In 1981, at the Chautauqua resort near Boulder, Colorado, in the presence of a large walnut salad, G. McNulty posed the following problem (published in [5, p. 227]): Problem. Let A be a finite set with a...
متن کاملA Solution to Plato's Problem:
How do people know as much as they do with as little information as they get? The problem takes many forms; learning vocabulary from text is an especially dramatic and convenient case for research. A new general theory of acquired similarity and knowledge representation, Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA), is presented and used to successfully simulate such learning and several other psycholinguist...
